I often work in series to explore subjects that interest me.
My work is driven by my fascination with the human face and form, in part because I grew up surrounded by my mother’s collection of masks and sculpture. The philosopher Emmanuel Levinas believed that looking at other people’s faces was how we learned to be human. Every face we meet, he thought, reminds us that we share the world with people who are fundamentally like us but who are also, like us, irreducibly unique.

Altered Ego II
Altered Ego started out as a drawing exercise of a face. It has become a symbol of multiple personalities. It can be as simple as the public self you show of yourself vs the private self, or as dissociative identity disorder (DID), otherwise known as multiple personality disorder. 17.5 x 29.5 inches , wool, cotton, metallic, 2023 Artist's collection
Woman With Red Turban
An early example of my attempt to work in unconventional colors for a face. 20 x 23 inches, wool & cotton 2007 Artist's collection
Temptation
My tapestry “Temptation” explores the complexity of sexual identity and gender. It was inspired by drag performances. I was permitted to photograph performers while doing hair and makeup. One performer, Chocoláte, granted me the privilege of sharing an intimate moment, as she donned her wig. The photos I took of her inspired this work. Issues of individuality and concepts such as innocence, enlightenment and liberation were on my mind while working on this tapestry. 45.5 x 40 inches, wool and cotton, 2016 Artist's collection
Cowgirl I
This tapestry is a study for a larger work exploring an unconventional color palette and weaving on two different setts. 11.25 x 5 inches, wool & cotton, 2015
